How Gun Milan works
Gun Milan compares the Moon's nakshatra and sign in both birth charts across eight kootas. Together they carry 36 points, called gunas. Our calculator uses sidereal positions with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard used by Indian panchangs.

What is a good Gun Milan score?
Traditionally, 18 or more gunas is an acceptable match, 25 to 32 is good and above 32 is excellent. A score is only part of the picture: the classical texts also give exceptions (parihara) that cancel Nadi, Bhakoot and Gana dosha, and our result shows these for your pair.
Manglik dosha check
A person is Manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. We check from both the ascendant and the Moon, and list the common cancellations, such as both partners being Manglik or Mars in its own sign.
South Indian 10 poruthams
Families in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh use Dashakoota matching. The calculator shows all ten poruthams, including Rajju and Vedha, which tradition treats as essential.

Frequently asked questions
Is kundli milan accurate without the birth time?
The Moon's nakshatra decides most of the score, so a date and place usually give the right result. Without a time we cannot check Manglik dosha from the ascendant, and the calculator warns you if the Moon changed nakshatra that day.
What if our score is below 18?
Many families still go ahead after looking at the full charts with a pandit. Check whether the doshas in your result are cancelled by the classical exceptions.
Is Nadi dosha always a problem?
No. Nadi dosha is traditionally cancelled when both share a Moon sign but have different nakshatras, or share a nakshatra but have different Moon signs, among other rules.
Which ayanamsa do you use?
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard of the Indian government's calendar reform committee and most panchangs.

Name-based matching uses only the first syllable and is far less reliable. We recommend birth details.
